Why I love Console

Hello, thanks for tuning in(click in actually) This is Why I love Console, and my good friend Ai-Vern is doing the Why I love PC Game/Gaming on the other end. check his out as well, cause he's  one is a better article/post/whatever you call it.

Heard of Nintendo? Sony? Playstation? Gameboy? These are what you call consoles, where you pop a CD or a cartridge into slot and plug some wires into the TV, and voila, game on TV.

You get the awesome Mario series, Legend of Zelda series, Final Fantasy series, Metal Gear Solid, and so on. So when we're young, we wrestle the remote control to watch our favourite cartoon, and then suddenly, we wrestle the damn TV. The industry and the world changed shortly after. You have to admit, consoles suddenly become the center of the family. Its the magic machine that bring happiness to kids, and families.

You can read about everything on Wikipedia, but the main players are actually Nintendo and Sony Playstation. Xbox wasn't even concieve yet, when these 2 giants wage console war.

I prefer console to PCs for one single reason: ease of use. Let me show you:

  1. First you unbox
  2. Then you read instruction/clamour over your new toy
  3. You fix the console's power supply
  4. You plug in the analogue connection to TV
  5. You plug in the controller and memory card
  6. Turn on the power and put the CD / DVD / Cartridge and;
  7. Voila, happy gaming

And thats only the start. with the Gameboy, its even simple:

  1. Put batteries
  2. Put Game cartridge
  3. Turn power on
  4. Happy Gaming

See? You don't need to do complicated setup before you can use. No installing this and that. Instant gratification.  Oh, did I mention how you're gonna play/control the game?

This is simplicity itself, I mean, what more do you want?

Oh yes, 6 extra buttons(shoulder button, forgot?) and 2 analog stick

To me, console game isn't about blowing your mind with spectacular rendering of a pimple/dimple on a character's face, Mario isn't rendered in gloriously shiny 3D when it started, but do you care? You just want to clip more Koopas thats all.

As far as I know, Nintendo is the only company that's keeping the spirit of true console gaming. Look at Xbox 360 and PS3, their game has got so much better looking that they need a hard drive to install data beforehand to avoid long loading time. Sounds very PC-ish.

I mean, what happen to put the CD and play? And pop a cartridge and play(Nintendo DS and PSP case)How hard can it be?

Things were worst for PSP, they decide to do a mini PS2, it was great, but when it comes to delivering the game they use the ill fated UMD, which is Universal Media Dumpster. It's the worst they can do.
