Valkyrie

Valkyrie is for you if:
1) you're a military buff(you like anything army related
2) you like stories about plotting to kill someone
3) you like Tom Cruise

Valkyrie isn't for you if:
1) you don't like army stuff, killing people and the sort
2) you're on a valentine date(not very suitable)
3) you don't like Tom Cruise

What Yeak Hon have to say:

Valkyrie capture the suspense, danger, atmosphere of what its like when you're plotting to kill the most imporant man in history, Adolf Hitler. And with that, I'd say this movie is a huge success, artistically.

The movie got its name from one of Hitler's contingency plan that mobilize the German Reserve Army in event of internal disturbance or national emergency, and the conspirators modify the Operation Valkyrie for a coup d'etat.

Our man Tom Cruise is an army officer in the German Army. althought he faithfully serve his country, he doesn't approve of Hitler's inhumane war acts, including the mass murder of Jewish people. He's also a commander who put the life of his soldiers before the mission, as evidence when he attempt to negotiate a retreat to save his men instead of sending them to their death.

Unfortunately, Bill Nighy was cast as Tom Cruise's superior, who is an old man, which by the look is like a strict father, or just a grumpy old man. I was actually fantasizing about Bill Nighy The Vampire Lord helping with the assasination half way through the movie. But who am I kidding, this is a historical thriller. Oh well...

Anyway there's something about men in Nazi uniform. Just donning it demands you to be in high discipline, honour military codes and superior. The way the actors stand attention or salute is uncanny. These men are army, military conduct above anything else. However the actors do admit that they need getting used to wearing the Nazi uniform. However they got used to it, and play their role like a profesional. After all they're playing as the very people who's gonna assassinate Hitler, not Jews.

For my final say, go watch this movie.
